Verified Reviewer |Extremely Horrifying Negative Renting Experience
- - Rent is high and many repairs are delayed; locks, leaks, pests.
- - No heat, no security cameras, and ongoing harassment concerns.
I moved into The Brooklyner, Brooklyn, NY, 11201 exactly four months ago today and I highly recommend anyone considering this apartment complex to RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN away from this building. My rent is $4117.00 monthly for a one-bedroom apartment.
I pay my rent early every month and I am never late. The Brooklyner is 55 stories tall, has 490 apartments and 5 maintenance staff which is ridiculous!!! The first day, when I went to pick up the apartment keys, the Community Manager tried to provoke me by putting his hands in my face. I also filled out a apartment checklist detailing what was wrong with my apartment on my initial inspection.
I had to return the form within three days which I did. The apartment front door locks were hard to open. Then it seemed like someone was entering my apartment when I was not there, so naturally I did not move my belongings into the apartment, which cost me money because I had to pay extra Self-Storage fees for my personal property. I requested that they change the locks, both main lock and deadbolt lock.
The Community Managers came up with all kinds of excuses, even after I told them someone had a key and was entering my apartment when I was not home. It took ONE MONTH for Maintenance to replace the main lock and deadbolt locks. The kitchen had bugs under the sink, so I sprayed insecticide throughout the entire apartment. The kitchen sink had a faucet leak so I could not prepare my own food for ONE MONTH which cost me more money because I had to eat out.
There are no screens on any of the windows so you cannot get any fresh air without letting flying and crawling insects into the apartment. Management said I would have to buy my own screens. The way the windows are built, it is very expensive to hang curtains or drapes. One of the bedroom windows is stuck and it took two maintenance men to open it.
I told them to close the window because I am a Senior Citizen and I don't have the strength to open it constantly; there are no screens on the window and because Winter season is coming. The bathroom has a electric heater built into the wall. Heater did not work because it is burnt out. I requested a new one and Management said that it is not Winter yet so they did not want to replace it.
I pay for all electricity in the apartment including the bathroom heater, so if I want to get out of the shower into a warm bathroom that is my right regardless of the season. Bathroom toilet tank was filthy inside. I asked management to replace it. Four months have passed and they have done nothing about it even though I listed it on the Apartment checklist.
I had to put Clorox Toilet Tank disinfecting tablets in the tank to kill all the mold and bacteria growing in the toilet tank and I still do this monthly. Bathroom sink stopper was not holding water in the sink. It took them two weeks to come and pop out the sink stopper which took maintenance less than one minute to do. There are no security cameras on the individual floors (55 floors) nor are there any in the emergency stairwells.
The Maintenance Department uses an AI (Artificial Intelligence) system named Ella instead of a Human to receive your apartment issues. AI Ella maintenance system DOES NOT WORK!!! Heat? What heat!!!
October 1st, 2026 has come and gone and still NO HEAT!!! I pay for Heat too!!! I have two McQuay electric combination Cooling and Heating units installed in the apatment. One in the living room and one in the bedroom.
Like the old saying goes, "Where's The Heat!!! What a joke this place is!!!
I have had the Community Manager and certain Maintenance staff stalk me, sexually harass me, follow me around, photograph/videotape me in the surrounding neighborhood as well as in the building itself. The last four months living here has been Complete *** On Earth!!!

Verified Reviewer |The worst rental experience of my life
- - Months-long rodent infestation and decaying stench.
- - Management ignored unsanitary conditions.
- - Unfair billing and aggressive corporate practices.
My experience with Equity Residential was a total health and management nightmare. We endured a massive, months-long rodent infestation, dealing with the unbearable stench of decay and unsanitary conditions that management systematically ignored.
The negligence didn't stop thereafter moving out, the experience worsened with predatory and unfair billing practices that completely disregarded the lack of habitability we suffered.
From incompetent maintenance to aggressive, unethical corporate management, my experience was disastrous. I strongly advise everyone to stay away; this company prioritizes collections over the health and basic rights of its residents.

Station 92 sucks, and allows overcrowded apartments
- - I've been here 1.5 years; the 1BR below is loud with 3+ people and daytime kids.
- - The office responds to complaints but treats me like the problem.
I have lived here for a year and a half, the room below me (1BR) is extremely loud and has at least 3 people living in it, and babysit more kids during the day. It sounds like a circus down there, and the office will respond to my (10+) complaints but acts like I'm the problem and am being overdramatic. I'm legitimately counting the days until I can move out of this place, it is miserable to hear kids screaming, crying, running and jacka**ing around all day while I try to work, there should only be 1-2 people regularly in 1 BR apartments period.
User's recommendation: Don't live at station 92, and EQR should take their handbook seriously.

Verified ReviewerPlease read all details:
- - AC broken for months with only one repair attempt.
- - Freezer fixed after a year; misbehavior notice issued; evidence shared with lawyer.
My apartment's air conditioner has been broken for several months in the hot weather of Los Angeles, and only one person came and tried to fix its settings and left, but the problem continues and even though I protested and emailed the management many times, no one cares. Last week, after a year, the freezer of my apartment was finally repaired, but two days later, I received a notice from the apartment manager about misbehaving with his repairmen, which was not true at all, and after explaining to him, I rejected his claim and said Such an incident has never happened, but the building manager refused and said that he had investigated!!!
In addition, I gave the video of the camera inside my apartment to the lawyer, as well as all the documents related to the problems in the apartment during the past year and my one-year follow-up emails, as well as the photos and emails exchanged when I fell and was seriously injured due to the flooding of the parking lot. I also gave it to the lawyer. Because I had already said that I would do this, our construction manager wanted to pretend that I had been aggressive to his employees by giving a fake notice!
And of course, he didn't know that I have a camera in my apartment. In any case, they are still obliged to repair the air conditioner, but they don't do it.

SupporterPoor Property Management and Property Maintenance Manager with Issues
- - Property Manager changed in 2020; earlier managers cared for tenants.
- - Exterior utility room door jams; maintenance offers only band-aid fixes.
?I have lived since over 4 years. In 2020 when Covid originated, the Property Manager changed.
Our previous Property Manager cared about tenants and maintenance of property. If we had service issues they got resolved.
Biggest issue is my Exterior Utility Room entry door where my washer is dryer is on my patio, is welted and literally falling apart at the seams. All maintenance does is put a band aid on it. Recently I caught Covid.
This meant isolation and rest. Well I was unable to do my laundry because my Utility door jam is broken, due to recent heavy rains and my being weak I was unable to unjam the door to get to washing machine for days. I needed to sanitize my sheets etc.
To this day it still jams. the only way to open it is to jiggle the a butter knife where the door opens.
I am concerned because as I stated the door is falling apart at the seems and I'm worried it will fall on me because I have to use force to open it.
I've submitted a few tickets regarding this issue and keep getting lip service, like well be patient we will eventually be renovating occupied apartments BUT for now priority is unoccupied apartments get renovated first.
What got me upset with this incident is I submitted a Ticket on February 18, 2024 ( a holiday so I expected a day or two lag in hearing from maintenance). I finally got a call from one of the maintenance guys and I told him specifically asked the the Maintenance Manager contact me to schedule a time when I work from home Friday, February 23, 2024. He assured me he would let his managers know. I advised him if I don't hear from his manager by close of business today, I would go to Equity Corporate.
This is an ongoing issue the Property Management Onsite Team.
I emailed the Equity California Contact tonight and advised her that unless she can authorize a new door I prefer to deal with Equity Residential Corporate office in Chicago. Well, I am unable to locate their phone number or direct email addresses. The one's I found on like are invalid.
Can you please assist me in getting a good contact phone number and email address for their corporate offices. I am done dealing with local management.
If I could afford to move from here I would This place is going down hill. The Property Managers let complaints and requests go in and out of both ears and talk out of their lips.
To add insult to injury, my lease renewal increased $90.00 and I can't get a call from maintenance manager???
So disappointing. I love the location and set up of apartment isn't bad but it needs work.
This is an older complex, (But pretty, but as I said going downhill). I am not at all pleased with Property Management Team.

Verified ReviewerMold, Aggressive Off Leash Dogs, Dog *** are not Luxury
- - Mold in bathrooms and ventilation issues.
- - Off-leash dogs unsafe and not enforced.
- - Move-in issues: incomplete carpet and slow corporate response.
I was asked to support a contest in good faith and have taken that review down because there are too many ignored issues, delays in resolution, - violations and health hazards unacceptable anywhere, especially a luxury property.
I moved here for two reasons:
- safety of my animals with the growing coyote issue
- A mold free environment
About 20 dog owning residents do not comply with Los Angeles leash law and regularly have their animals off leash, in some cases for over 5 years. I learned from other residents, that the aggressive dogs have bit residents and their animals preceding my residency. I immediately reported the first incident on 11/13/22, as well as the 3 other subsequent issues. I was lied to and told these issues were new despite the reviews below, other residents sharing they have existed for years and the building wide notice on 11/9/22 suggesting their full knowledge.
These off leash dogs are allowed by their owners to run down the stairs, out of the garages and/trail behind their owners while they defecate, leaving dog *** all over the beautiful property which diminishes the value and beauty, as well as compromises the health of the entire community. On-site and off-site corporate management is fully aware of all of this and has had the opportunity to resolve this, yet they have been unable to remedy or provide a solution that restores the law, safety, health and well being to all residents - by choice of not enforcing it for multiple years.
When I looked at the property I was assured it was mold free and that all apartments are inspected and properly treated. I moved forward trusting the leasing office. I wanted to move in on 11/15/22 to give enough time to get it ready and was pressured to move in 11/6/22 otherwise my rent would be hundreds more.
I want to be very clear Keith and Joel are INCREDIBLE!! These two men in addition to Luis are the heart of this building. All three are kind and deliver exceptional service. The only reason it was not ready was they didn't have the time to complete their checklist despite my request for a later move in.
I moved in with an incomplete carpet job. They did not replace the padding and the job was rushed and unprofessional, you can feel where they melted the seams together. After move in, the office was unable to set an appt day/time to complete the job despite it being a huge and avoidable inconvenience. I was offered windows of 11am-5pm. The carpet guy entered my home unannounced and without warning on 3 occasions. I reported this to the on-site manager immediately and it still happened 2 more times. It is completely unacceptable for someone to enter your home like this and bizarre that the office who hired him didn't even apologize.
There was mold in both bathrooms, as well as multiple other repair issues. I was again assured the mold would be inspected and remedied and all would be ready for move in. Yet they knew they did not give maintenance the time they needed to properly restore the unit. The air filters had not been replaced, the exhaust fan in the bathroom was clogged with debris and other factors that created an environment for mold.
After 4 post move in maintenance visits, things like painting the balcony are still on the list and will need at least 1-2 more visits to finish the list and even more visits to remedy the mold. Again Keith and Joel are not the issue, they are the valued solution.
For anyone exploring, trust life here is below the line of luxury living. I came here to be happy and expressed my expectations upfront and honestly. I was lied to and in dealing with the office I'm continually being lied to. It's a classic case of over promise and under deliver which is a dishonest container that creates unnecessary disputes and disappointments. Some human decency of an apology and accountability would go a long way and that's absent.
I'm waiting for corporate to contact me. It's been over 30 business days since my first complaint. Plenty of time to have implemented a solution, or simply have a courtesy phone call, meeting or video chat to apologize for all I'm dealing with in just 2 months, yet I'm being asked to be patient while they get through the new year.
I assure you this property has so much potential that is diminished by the lack of proper staff, honesty and authority on-site. I'll leave this review up so others can make their decisions with the knowledge I wish I had. I will update it once there are solutions in place which are currently taking longer than they should.

Verified Reviewer |5-star luxury for rats, not tenants
- - Equity Residential charges $6,519.20/mo and pressures renewal.
- - Trespasses occur, cameras broken, padlocks present, back lacks a fob, rats reported.
Equity Residential offers attractive, beautifully located "luxury" apartments at staggeringly high rents with zero sensitivity to basic resident concerns about documented forcible intrusions, destruction of property, rats, and ancient, falling-apart appliances. Numerous trespasses, an unlawful entry, destroyed security cameras and padlocks, and not one word of acknowledgement or assistance from the corporate office, just a demand that we re-sign our lease 60 days before expiration at $6,519.20 per month (yes, $6,519.20) or let ER begin showing the apartment.
I wonder how prospective renters will feel about the multiple openly visible rat traps (pest control is evidently the resident's responsibility), grisly photos of decapitated rodents, ten individual security cameras (again, the building has none, not in back where it matters most), oversize photos of previous trespassers and intruders (to remind us in case we spot them lurking in the distance), glass breakage alarms on each casement, double siren alarms on our patio gate (Equity Residential won't install a fob system in back, only in front, so individually installed siren alarms were our only practical option), plus myriad tripwire sirens if prospective renters decide to visit the patio. Eventually, a dog or baby will be bitten by the rats, a violent trespasser will injure or kill a tenant, or an ancient appliance will catch fire and destroy multiple units, but ER will no doubt insist it took reasonable precautions (double-speak for hiring lawyers), when the cheapest and most reasonable precautions were systematically ignored.
1 Harborside Place in Jersey City has breathtaking views and is just 2 blocks from PATH, but it is rat-infested and plagued by trespassers. Pack a rifle, mace, butcher's knife, or whatever, and NEVER leave your door or window ajar.
- Breathtaking views
- Decent size units
- Nearby public transportation
- Unlawful intruders
- Aggressive trespassers
- Lousy security
Preferred solution: Security camera at back gate, fob entry at back gate, or both
User's recommendation: Never leave doors or windows ajar, install your own security cameras, and carry a weapon
