During the pandemic, Covig 19, Equity Residential made no concessions. There is no security. All deliveries are sent to your apartment unannounced. No intercom, no doorbell. No call.

This building is not safe, 170 Amsterdam. Deliveries are sent to your apartment unannounced.

No intercom, no doorbell. Front desk is supposed to call. They never do.

Corporate office is useless. They ignore everything.

Elevators are very slow.

The washing machines are always breaking. The one in the apartment never works.

User's recommendation: Move somewhere else. Why pay high rent for a "doorman" building. There is NO security here.

4 weeks ago, Vantage Hollywood entered my home without notice or consent. Furthermore, they came in, pulled everything out of a closet, put it in the middle of my studio, and began plumbing and construction work.

This plumbing and construction is being done for the other more remodeled apartments to have a washer/dryer. My actual until will not have a washer/dryer installed until I move out, and the entire unit is remodeled, so they are literally doing all of this for their good, not mine. When I became very upset, they offered to let me put all the stuff from my closet into an apt. that was not rented yet.

They told me the construction would only be a week. As of week two, they cut out holes in my ceiling and wall, and changed the locks on the apt that my stuff was in. I realized as I was trying to pack to leave for the holidays, that I could not get my stuff. I called the office and left 2 vm, only to be called back a day later!

They moved my stuff to another empty space, but said that they needed to move it again by the next day, and asked where I wanted it to go! It has now been 4 weeks. The construction is still not done, I have huge holes, they think they can enter whenever they would like to finish, all my closet storage items are in the middle of my room, and I will a full sq foot of closet space when they are finished.

I was also offered $100 off my rent for a week, and $200-$300 off if they took a week longer. My rent was still billed at full price anyway!

I have had similar experiences with Equity Res. My building experienced a dramatic drop in services and security when the company took ownership of several buildings on NYC’s upper west side, including mine, and as a result many of the senior staff members left, as did many of the tenants.

In the 15+ years I have resided in the building I have witnessed many changes, but prior to the change in ownership they did not affect the quality of service, or security. Among the qualitative changes that took place were the loss of a library in the common room, which supplied the tenants with a place to bring and borrow books (we were never notified!) as well as the “renovation” of the gym, which included the removal of the showers and locker rooms.

There were numerous other changes to the building, including a diminishing of service staff, and other examples of penny pinching too numerous to mention. I moved into my present apartment without being notified that no wiring existed for cable or internet hookup, which was finally installed several months later after a new tenant moved In next door, and had the same problem..Unsurprisingly, I never received an apology, let alone financial compensation..

Income source discrimination and unprofessional code of conduct

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I had submitted online an application with Haven Connect for apartment at a lower rental rate . I received an email from Jennifer Morell the Assistant Community Manager at 100 Morgan Street , Stamford , Connecticut to appear for an interview with their affordable housing program.

Not only was Jennifer Morell’s code of conduct unprofessional, unpleasant and demeaning in demeanor . Jennifer Morell knowing I resides two states away gave me less then 10 days to attend said interview. Instead of 30 days notice , my daughter had passed away and my youngest son could not make the interview. This was an eligibility interview for an apartment with the affordable housing program.

Jennifer Morell warned me that she could put me down on this list if I asked for a supervisor since she was very inflexible and downright degrading because as she put it, this was her program and I would be receiving the unit at a lower rate and implied that was a favor . I have a Section 8 housing Voucher and that already proves household income and qualifies one for affordable housing . Jennifer Morell demanded proof of income and directed all her questions to my 22 year old despite me being head of household. Jennifer Morell and Gizelle in front of me and my son began harassing and verbally chastising a tenant of 100 Morgan Street who was trying to retrieve mail and packages from the office where left by postal employee.

I had been 25 minutes late and sent email, text and she made me wait for over 5 hours to be seen knowing I came a great distance for this eligibility interview. Jennifer Morell stated in front of me and my son she would not wait or follow Section 8 Rental Assistance rules or regulations for us to get said unit at 100 Morgan Street. Instead she asked for more documentation she had no business with since I am eligible via Section 8 housing voucher. Jennifer Morell knew my waiting those 5 hours also caused me and my younger son to miss a balloon release in my deceased daughter’s honor since October 10th is her first birthday in heaven.

I sent Jennifer Morell an email she acknowledged receipt of email but claimed her system was down on 10/14/19 and left a voicemail instead of putting in writing the responses. I let her know I felt she was unprofessional and wanted to know if and how many Section 8 tenants resides at 100 Morgan Street .

If so, how many did she approve of since she refuses to wait for inspections from Section 8 or knew nothing of filling in an RTFA form for units to obtain Section 8 Rental Assistance to pay portion of rent for apartment. I was discriminated by Jennifer Morell because of source of income being Section 8 Rental Assistance.

Do not rent from them. It is a terrible company. Total ripoff

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

If i could give this place no stars i would. This place is a ripoff.

Firstly, the interior of the apartments are so cheap and the appliances are always breaking down, and they way the repair them is to replace them with old broken appliances to solve the problem. But even worse, if you are 5 minutes late with your rent payment, they attempt to charge an exorbitant and frankly illegal late payment. So to give you an idea, if your rent payment is $2800 a month, by 12.01 am post the date of payment, they will attempt to charge $140 in a late fee, and mind you it does not matter even if it's their stupid portal that does not work, that fee gets assessed regardless. It's completely illegal to charge fees like that, and for current resident's i strongly encourage you not to pay those fees, it's illegal.

They have done that because no one has challenged them in Southern California, and they have a class action lawsuit for just this reason being leveled against them in Northern California and they are now begging for one in Southern California with this nonsense. This is one of thee worst places to live in this area. Find another one and do not entertain this place. It's cheap on the interior and expensive on your checkbook, but the interior is so shabby and they make no effort to improve anything.

The carpets are cheap and shred and the appliances are old and broken and just about everything about this place should get less than one star. They must have paid people to do good google reviews or have employees do the reviews because no one i know that lives here would give them a higher grade than one star if even that. Beware and proceed with caution because i can guarantee you satisfaction won't be the result if you move into this complex. In fact they are getting worse not better.

The staff is totally incompetent and think they can do as they please. They can't but they sure try.

Do not care for safety!!!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I have been renting at Skycrest Apts, for 10 Months. This is a smoke free apartment complex.

I have an infant which was born with lung problems. The marijuana smoke has leeched into my apartment on many occasions. I have filed a complaint every single time which is over 30 times. They have yet to handle the problem.

Things have gotten phyiscal with the other tenant and threatened the livelihood of my family. I have asked repeatedly to simply move him or move me more than willing, I was assured that wouldn't be necessary. MY MISTAKE!

It's been 2 more months past this point I tell them I'd like to leave at this point after filing numerous complaints and dealing with this for over 5 months. They hit me with a breaking the lease fine, I understand this but after so many complaints and trying to work with them will be seeking legal action for the health hazard created with no genuine attempt at resolvence.

Hi--my October rental bill is incorrect. The Pier, Jersey City, Unit 616.

We are vacating 10/4, I am being charged for the entire month of October at a rate higher than the existing rental agreement. We never signed or agreed to any increase in rate. To be able to receive the correct bill I am being asked to sign a release of litigation notice, which I disagree with.

Please call me today, September 30th to resolve. The community manager Ferdinand offers little help.

Horrible - Potrero 1010 SF

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Wow.

I’m not totally sure where to even start with this building… maybe that it was the worst place that I have ever lived.

A few good things before I get into the heavy stuff: the roof was cool, my apartment itself/appliances were new, the maintenance crew were typically great (especially Alvin), and Dallas and Zach were helpful in the office.

Other than that this place was a nightmare. I lived here for 2 years and am so happy to be out!

First off, let’s talk security. For a building that has around 480 apartments it has NO cameras (or close to no cameras, no one is really sure). The security guards go around and take photographs of residents and common areas during their shifts to prove that they made the rounds and to show that everything is “okay”. To me this is unbelievable. Not only is it an invasion of resident’s privacy, but it also makes 0 sense security/safety wise. As a young woman I don’t think it’s reasonable or comfortable to have my photograph taken by security while I’m in my own building. For the type of rent we are playing you would think Equity Residential would be able to spring for security cameras. When myself and other resident have asked management about this and complained we were told that this is Equity Residential’s common practice…which I highly doubt.

A specific story where this could have come in handy is when my best friend and I (who was also a resident) were on the roof working and a young man that we believed to be a resident/we had said hello to attacked us (yes attacked) and threw my phone over the roof when I threatened to call 911. NONE of this, including the identity of the person was caught on camera BECAUSE THERE ARE NO CAMERAS. The only thing found was my phone the next day, in the dog park, on the other side of building, smashed. Assuming this individual wasn’t a resident, how did he get to our roof? Why were there no cameras to record these events? Why were there no security guards at the building? To make matters worse we called 311 (since no one was in immediate harm) and the police said they were on their way, but when they arrived they were unable to get into the building because of the “security system” put into place. This may sound wonky to those who do not live in this building, but the emergency services were unable to get into the building/lobby without someone letting them in. They ended up leaving since it was not a 911 call, but what if it had been? What if someone needed an ambulance? How would the appropriate people be able to get into the building? I am still unsure, and that is a HUGE red flag.

When I reported this incident to management I received almost no help, merely an email saying sorry that it happened and that someone found my phone in the dog park. I was unable to give the police any information the next day / they couldn’t do anything about it since there was no camera footage or help from the building.

There have also been quite a few break-ins at this building, which management is slow to admit or even alert residents to. One of which was that of my best friend where everything of value was taken from the apartment. This occurred in the middle of the day, in the middle of the week. Security cameras probably would have been a good thing right about then, huh? These occurrences have lead many residents to buy their own security systems, which is never a bad idea for extra security but as this building claims to be secure and safe it is quite ridiculous. At one point I questioned management as to what they would do going forward to protect residents and their belongings and I was told it is no ones responsibility except for that of the resident (I have this in an email). This basically inferred that the building could care less that we were worried about safety and our property.

Speaking of property, better watch your bikes! Those go missing pretty quickly and quite often as well.

The security team must be doing something though, right? Yeah, they’re knocking on your door at 9 pm on a Friday with bogus noise complaints. This happened to me after living here for about 6 months, and I had 4 people over, one being my mom who was visiting for the weekend. Not only were we not loud, I don’t remember this building being a dorm or student housing with a curfew. Two large men I had never seen before knocked on my door and said they were police. We answered the door cautiously and found that it was just security. They were definitely flexing some non existent power/fragile masculinity. They said that there was a complaint, but were unable to provide any details or give any reasons as to why they were at my door. Eventually they said they had heard something, not even gotten a complaint, and had decided to check it out? Still confused by this but it was outrageous and again ignored by management the next day. Security can “bust” 3 grad students and my mom for noise on a Friday night, but can’t stop someone from breaking into your apartment. I believe they have switched security companies a few times while I lived there, but they were all about the same.

The package system is not great and rarely organized. I feel horrible for forgetting the individual’s name that was usually in the package room but he was amazing, kind, and helpful. The system and the security of the room were not up to him (obviously) and was a building flaw. I had packages lost and stolen more times than I can count. I was also accused of stealing a package once, and then that charge was mysteriously dropped once I proved I hadn’t been there in days. Good times.

Maintenance was always prompt and helpful, but I feel that there was always major miscommunication between their team and management. Management also frequently intervened in maintenance, which slowed the process down, and confused everyone involved.

A main example is from this past winter when I began to notice a small crack in my ceiling after being gone for the holidays. I was away for around a week and SF had quite a few rainstorms. Since it was the holiday and it wasn’t an emergency I didn’t hear back from the building for a few days, which by then the crack was damp, and beginning to get larger. It doesn’t take a professional to realize that there was a leak somewhere and it needed to be checked out. When maintenance came they said it was just the “building settling” and they needed to patch it up/to not worry about the dampness, that it was just humidity. About 2 months went by and I noticed the crack again but this time it was getting larger very quickly, drywall was falling from it, and it was clearly wet and dripping. After a few days of not hearing back from the building I also started to smell “dampness”/ mildew and noticed that there was what looked like mold in the crack. Long story short, the back and forth between the building and I went on for a few weeks and it was incredibly stupid. I told them that I was going to buy a mold test/contact a lawyer if it wasn’t fixed and that night I came home to find *** cut out of ceiling where the crack was…

I guess this was a way to fix it, but the real issue was never solved. I had a professional’s opinion outside of Potrero 1010 and they told me that this was most likely a larger scale issue with piping or that the building really was settling, but that there was a leak and it would most likely effect more than just my apartment in the long run. I fully believe that all of the BS I went through with the building surrounding this issue was because they didn’t want to deal with a major issue/have to tear out the ceiling and find the leak. Whatever it may have been it was inconvenient, stressful, and I ended up with quite the allergies/cold, which I believe was due to the mold sitting there for so long before the crack appeared.

One of my favorite things about Potrero 1010 is how many times I was scolded for small mistakes or common practices amongst other residents. I feel that I was constantly getting passive aggressive emails or even in person “talking tos” about issues like not folding my recycling boxes the right way.

This winter I severely broke my ankle and fractured a rib, which impaired my ability to take out boxes/recycling. I was relying heavily on friends and neighbors (who were great!) but couldn’t be at my beck and call 24/7 (obviously). The building was aware of my situation but didn’t seem to care, and would continuously send me photos of my boxes being in the wrong spot in the recycling room, or outside of my door (until my neighbor could help me out). This was all while the majority of other residents did the same exact thing! I completely understand wanting the property to be clean and safe, but I was being treated like a child for something that I was trying so hard to do and for things that everyone else was doing, even without injuries.

This may seem super petty to even write about, but when you’re dealing with things like this for almost 2 years it gets to you.

I feel like I could go on and on and on with personal stories about my time at Potrero 1010, but in all honestly it just came down to what I perceive as bad management, miscommunication, and awful practices stemming all the way back to Equity Residential. Simple inquiries or complaints were often met with completely rudeness from the manager, or simply just ignored. Nothing was taken seriously and I still can’t believe I spent so much money for so long at this place.

My school and all of my jobs were within 5-10 minutes of Potrero 1010 and that was the main reason I stayed, but to give you an idea of how desperate I was to get out I moved across town. I would rather commute 30+ minutes than re-up my lease with Equity Residential.

If you were able to make it through the entirety of this review, all I can say is DON’T MOVE HERE. IT IS NOT WORTH IT.

I've been living at the Northglen Apartments and the property has gone down hill. The dumpster are always full of large pieces of furniture and other ”Non acceptable” trash items.

The irrigation system has to much pressure which is extremely wasteful water always running down the gutters The rent has sky rocketed in five years and the place is nothing to be proud of. My car was broken into and my friends car was smashed into on July 4 the.

No security cameras so we couldn't find out who did it. It's shameful the office personal should do a physical inspection of the property it would take less than 20 minutes so they can monitor the property and stay on top of ongoing issues
